Matt serves as the Executive Director of Career Management & College of Business Partnerships at Purdue University Northwest, where he oversees a comprehensive career services department – the Center for Career Management – for undergraduate and graduate business students. Matt has worked in career services for over ten years, starting as a Graduate Assistant at Indiana University-Bloomington before spending several years at Valparaiso University as Assistant Director of the Career Center. Matt’s work has focused extensively on transforming curricula to incorporate impactful career development interventions throughout students’ academic careers and creating innovative employer engagement programs. In recent years, multiple programs pioneered in the CCM have received substantial recognition for their impact in the fields of career development and business education, including awards from AACSB International (Winner, “Innovations that Inspire”, 2018), the Mid-American Business Deans Association (1st Place, “Innovations in Business Education”, 2017), and Career Development Professionals of Indiana, Inc. (Winner, “Career Services Innovation Award”, 2018). The College of Business Experience program (a required four-year career development course sequence for undergraduate business majors) and its corresponding service learning capstone project, the Partners in Servant Leadership program, resulted in Junior Achievement of Chicago & NWI giving its first-ever “University Champion” award to Purdue Northwest. Under Matt’s leadership, the PNW College of Business has seen a 50%+ increase in student internships over a two-year period, and a substantial increase in employer engagement and corporate partnerships. Matt was also recently recognized as one of Northwest Indiana’s “20 Under 40” for 2018 in the NWI Times. Matt’s educational background includes bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Indiana University-Bloomington (Matt was a professional opera singer in a past life…really), and a master’s degree in counseling and graduate certificate in management from Valparaiso University. He is a certified practitioner of the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate and National Certified Counselor (NCC). Matt is a past-president and longtime board member of Career Development Professionals of Indiana, and currently serves on the board of Junior Achievement of Chicago-NWI. He lives in Valparaiso, IN, just outside of Chicago with his wife, son, and three small dogs, where he and his wife jointly own a private counseling practice, Wells Family Counseling LLC.
